Copier Paper Jam Solutions
Why does the copier jam?

01
Separating claw wear
If the copier is used for a long time, the separation claw of the photosensitive drum or the fixing roller of the machine will be severely worn, resulting in paper jams. In severe cases, the separation claw cannot separate the copy paper from the photosensitive drum or fixing roller, causing the paper to wrap around it and cause a paper jam. At this time, use anhydrous alcohol to clean the toner on the fixing roller and the separation claw, remove the dull separation claw, and sharpen it with fine sandpaper, which generally can make the copier continue to use for a period of time. If not, only replace the new separation claw.

02
Paper path sensor failure
The paper path sensors are mostly located in the separation area, the paper outlet of the fuser, etc., and use ultrasonic or photoelectric components to detect whether the paper passes or not. If the sensor fails, it cannot detect the passage of the paper. When the paper is advancing, when it touches the small lever transported by the sensor, the ultrasonic wave or light is blocked, so that it is detected that the paper has passed, and the instruction for the next procedure is issued. If the small lever fails to rotate, it will prevent the paper from advancing, resulting in a paper jam. Therefore, you should check whether the paper path sensor operates correctly.

03
Wear of the registration roller and damage to the drive clutch
The registration rollers are hard rubber rollers that drive the paper forward and align after the paper is rubbed out of the copier, and are located on the upper and lower sides of the paper. The wear of the registration roller will slow down the advancing speed of the paper, and the paper will often be stuck in the middle of the paper path. The drive clutch of the registration roller is damaged so that the roller cannot rotate and the paper cannot pass through. In this case, the registration roller should be replaced with a new one or dealt with accordingly.

04
Outlet baffle displacement
The copy paper is output through the exit shutter, and a copying process is completed. In copiers that have been used for a long time, the exit baffle is sometimes displaced or skewed, preventing the smooth output of copy paper and causing paper jams. At this time, the exit baffle should be corrected to make the baffle straight and move freely, and the paper jam will be solved.

05
Fusing contamination
The fixing roller is the driving roller when the copy paper passes through, and the toner melted by high temperature during fixing can easily contaminate the surface of the fixing roller (especially when the lubrication and cleaning are poor), and the copy paper will stick to the fixing roller. At this time, check whether the roller is clean, whether the cleaning blade is in good condition, whether the silicone oil replenishment is effective, and whether the cleaning paper for the fixing roller is used up. If the fixing roller is contaminated, clean it with anhydrous alcohol and apply a little silicone oil on the surface. In serious cases, the felt pad or cleaning paper should be replaced.

8 Tips to Avoid Copier Paper Jams

1)Choice of copier
The quality of copy paper is the main culprit for paper jams and service life of copiers. It is best not to use paper with the following phenomena:

a. The same package of paper has uneven thickness, different sizes, and even defects.

b. There is stubble on the edge of the paper.

c. Too much paper wool will leave a layer of white debris after shaking on a clean table. Copier paper with too much paper wool will cause the pickup roller to be too slippery, so that the paper cannot be picked up, and the wear of the photosensitive drum and the fixing roller will be accelerated.

2)Choose the nearest carton

The closer the paper is to the photosensitive drum, the shorter the distance traveled during the copying process, and the less chance of "paper jam".

 3)Use the trays evenly

If the two paper trays are next to each other, alternate use can avoid paper jams caused by excessive wear of the paper pickup system of one paper path.

4)Shake the paper

Shake the paper on a clean table, and then rub it repeatedly to reduce paper lint.

5)Moisture-proof and anti-static

The damp paper is deformed after being heated in the copier, causing "paper jams", especially when copying on both sides. In autumn and winter, the weather is dry and it is easy to generate static electricity. Two or three copies of copy paper are often stuck together, causing "paper jams". It is recommended to place a humidifier near the copier.

 6) Cleaning

If the "paper jam" phenomenon that the copy paper cannot be picked up frequently occurs, you can wipe the pickup roller with a piece of wet absorbent cotton (do not dip too much water).

 7) Edge elimination

When copying originals with dark background color, the copy is often stuck in the paper output port of the copier in a fan shape. Use the edge erasing function of the copier to reduce the probability of "paper jams".

8) Regular maintenance

Comprehensive cleaning and maintenance of the copier is the most effective way to ensure the copying effect and reduce "paper jams".

Precautions
1. When taking out the "jammed paper", you can pull the parts that are allowed to move in the copier's manual.

2. Take out the whole paper at one time as much as possible, be careful not to leave broken pieces of paper in the machine.

3. Do not touch the photosensitive drum to avoid scratching the drum.

4. If you are sure that all "paper jams" have been cleared, but the "paper jam" signal still does not disappear, you can close the front cover again, or switch the machine power on and off.
