The latest report on global printer market shipments is released

Regeneration Times Report / According to IDC data, the global printer market shipments in the second quarter of 2022 were 22 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 3.9%. Shipments for the quarter were $9.6 billion, down 5.3% year over year. The global printer market is affected by persistent supply shortages, with sufficient inventories not expected until 2023.

IDC expects that in the second half of 2022, shipments will be inconsistent across most market segments, with a significant number of new products diverted to fulfilling backorders and tenders rather than new business.

Regionally, Asia Pacific (excluding Japan and China) and China achieved year-over-year unit growth of 7.4% and 1.0%, respectively, outperforming all other global regional markets. The main driver of growth came from the economic recovery in all APEC countries. In addition to this, supply and logistics issues have also improved over the past few quarters. A massive promotion in China on June 18 also boosted sales of ink cartridge printers.

In terms of brands, Canon, which ranks second in terms of shipments, recorded a year-on-year growth of 10% globally, with shipments exceeding 4.4 million units. During the quarter, the overall supply situation of Canon 4-in-1 ink cartridge printers was better than that of 3-in-1 ink cartridge printers. At the same time, Canon also launched a new commercial model. Canon hopes that the inkjet printer will fill the void left by the discontinuation of previous models.
